OAT1 (SLC22A6) Transporter Assay

The OAT1 transporter is an organic anion uptake transporter that is encoded by the SLC22A6 gene. OAT1 is expressed in the kidney on the basolateral membrane of proximal tubule epithelial cells. Because it transports substrates from the bloodstream into the kidney, OAT1 is involved in the renal elimination of these compounds and their metabolites.
