Chondrocytes, the the cells giving rise to cartilage, are involved in the pathophysiology of several joint diseases. BioIVT provides chondrocytes dissociated from the diseased cartilage to researchers looking to understand the causes of degenerative joint diseases. We also provide isolated chondrocytes from joints with no evidence of disease for comparative studies. In many cases, BioIVT can also provide synovial fibroblasts from the same patient. We cryopreserve our chondrocytes after a limited number of passages and can be provided as frozen ampoules or in flasks. All cases are provided with BioIVT’s standard set of clinical data.

Synovial fibroblasts are implicated in several degenerative joint diseases, most notably in rheumatoid arthritis where they are directly involved in the pathogenesis and osteoarthritis, where they may contribute to the disease state. BioIVT provides synovial fibroblasts from the synovium of patients having joint replacement surgery to researchers looking to understand the causes of degenerative joint diseases. We also provide isolated synovial fibroblasts isolated from joints with no evidence of disease for comparative studies. In many cases, BioIVT can also provide chondrocytes from the same patient. Cells are cryopreserved after a limited number of passages and are provided as frozen ampoules. All cases are provided with BioIVT’s standard set of clinical data.

BioIVT has extensive scientific expertise in the isolation and propagation of diseased human primary cells. Primary cells, from normal and diseased cohorts,  offer the closest known comparison to the original tissue. All donor material is confirmed for tissue type and diagnosis by our certified Pathologists and the resulting cells are known to be free of common human pathogens and are sterility tested. Each lot of cells is provided with available donor clinical data and drug history.

BioIVT offers Human Chondrocytes and Synovial Fibroblasts from multiple donors with the following diagnoses:

Osteoarthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Normal Control Donors

Custom cell isolation is also available upon request.

Features & Benefits

Primary cells propagated for limited time and cryopreserved after minimal numbers of passage. Thus, these cells maintain their differentiated state and can be used as an in vitro model system for molecular changes associated with disease.

Contents and Storage

Viable cells per vial is donor and lot dependent.
Cells are stored in cryopreservation media (CryoStor® CS5, Sigma Aldrich).

  • Sterility Test: Negative for bacterial growth, fungal growth
  • Pathogen Test: Negative for Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV1, HIV2, Mycoplasma sp.

Use Biosafety Level 1 safety procedures when handling these primary cells.
